Poised For Greater Responsibilities In New Era
By the time this issue of “Sahabat” is released, PPMC is scheduled to hold its 21s t Annual General Meeting, ending the tenure of the existing Executive Committee for the Session 2011-2013. This session has been an active one for the Association which saw the execution of many programs aimed at further enhancing the existing strong bond of friendship between the peoples of Malaysia and China.
One of the highlights of the Association’s activities, was the successful hosting of the Gala Dinner to Commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of PPMC. It was an evening of nostalgia, memories as well as entertainment. Our guests for the evening included Chinese Ambassador, Datuk Chai Xi; the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, YB Senator Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon; the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China, Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting; and the Former Deputy Prime Minister, Tun Musa Hitam. The occasion was also graced by Special Guests from the Chinese People Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), as well as representatives from the Brunei-China Friendship Association, the Singapore-China Friendship Association and the Indonesian-China Association for Cultural and Economic Exchanges.
To mark the auspicious occasion, PPMC also commissioned and launched a special pictorial Coffee Table Book to provide members and the public with a better understanding on the evolution of PPMC’s history as well as its contribution to the strengthening of the existing friendship between Malaysia and China. An equally significant event to mark the anniversary, was the Tree Planting Ceremony, a joint green activity with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur. As for the cultural promotion, Miss Shila Amzah, an upcoming Malaysian singer was appointed as PPMC’s Friendship Ambassador.
Members will agree that though PPMC is still a relatively young organization, the association can be proud of its achievement and efforts in strengthening Malaysia-China Friendship and mutual understanding. We pay special tribute to our founding members and to all other members for their contribution since the founding of PPMC 20 years ago.
The strong bilateral diplomatic foundation and partnership built upon by the leadership of the two governments over almost 4 decades have indeed contributed to the robust people-to-people interaction that we witness today between Malaysia and China. It has been acknowledged that Malaysia-China relations are at its best today. Much has been achieved since the establishment of formal relations in 1974. As we move forward in celebrating the coming of the 40th Anniversary of Malaysia-China Diplomatic Relations, I urge our members to continue their enthusiasm and generous support to PPMC , whose activities will naturally expand in the coming years as to commensurate with the expanding Malaysia-China partnership and cooperation at the level of Government to Government. PPMC, with its 20 years of experience, is ever ready to shoulder greater responsibilities to complement the Government’s efforts in further deepening and broadening the bond of friendship and partnership between the two countries in the decades ahead.
